Gulfstream Aerospace Opens AOG Resolution Center To Bolster Support To Aircraft Operators
Business jet manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace has created a 2,400-square-foot (223-square-meter) AOG (aircraft-on-ground) center within its Gulfstream Savannah Service Center it’s dedicating to resolving AOG issues. Derek Zimmerman, president of Gulfstream Product Support, dubs the AOG center as the next evolution of what the company’s Technical Operations department has provided for a decade. “Continuously improving our services is part of our effort to meet and exceed the expectations of our growing worldwide fleet,” Zimmerman stated.
Dedicated To AOG Issues
Gulfstream claims the Savannah Service Center, based in Savannah, Georgia, is the world’s largest (at 679,199 square feet, 63,100 square meters) and most technically advanced maintenance facility created specifically for business jets. Staffing the center is an enterprise-wide team of experts “dedicated to predicting, preventing, and resolving maintenance or logistics issues” that keep aircraft from making their next flights.
The AOG center represents the first time Gulfstream, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, has “concentrated such a broad team of multidisciplinary personnel together in a space solely dedicated to AOG situations,” Zimmerman said. “Co-locating technical experts with cross-enterprise resources, including logistics, materials and purchasing support, will lead to more coordinated responses to customers, expedite resolution of issues, and get aircraft back in the air faster than ever.”
Built To Resolve
Gulfstream says service calls coming into its Technical Operations Contact Center that it designates as an “AOG” issue will route to the new AOG Center. Team members there will have access to such resources as multiple FAST (Field and Airborne Support Teams) aircraft designated to deliver mission-critical parts, tools, and possibly technicians where needed. Gulfstream has more than 150 field service representatives and FAST-dedicated technicians, including a dozen mobile repair teams operating specially equipped vehicles.
The AOG center also has access to more than $1.6 billion in spare inventory stored at 20-plus locations and a network of 30-plus Gulfstream-owned and authorized service centers and warranty facilities. The AOG center also contains large monitors that display an up-to-date visual dashboard of information related to Gulfstream aircraft operating worldwide, facilities and personnel, and health updates of aircraft in flight.
