Bombardier Gives Global 7000 Business Jet The nice Touch
Global train and plane manufacturer Bombardier will debut its nice Touch CMS (Cabin Management System) at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2018) in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 29 to 31. Bombardier designed nice Touch CMS in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik exclusively for the upcoming Global 7000 aircraft.
Bombardier recently previewed the system, which includes an OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display dial, suite controllers, and app-control support. Bombardier says the system brings “cabin connectivity to the next level with two new layers of interaction” to create a “multifaceted solution” combining digital and physical interfaces.
Design & Tech
In a news release, Brad Nolen, Bombardier Business Aircraft vice president of marketing and product strategy, claimed that nice Touch CMS sets a new industry standard by advancing the cabin experience. Nolen added that the system’s Global 7000 integration combines impeccable design and leading-edge technology to bring “ultimate comfort and effortless control to the customer’s fingertips.”
The system’s Touch dial features the first integration of an OLED display in business aviation, according to Bombardier. Available from passenger seats, the Touch dial rises from a side ledge when swiped and enables control of entertainment and cabin settings. Suite controllers, meanwhile, are available in each of the Global 7000’s four distinct living spaces to offer “home-like automation” for lighting, temperature, and audio, all via touch functionality.
Sky-High Entertainment
Bombardier’s nice Touch CMS works in conjunction with the Global 7000 aircraft’s two media centers, which support 4K content delivery and on-demand audio and include hi-fi speakers and 40-inch displays. Complemented by Ka-band internet connectivity, nice Touch CMS enables passengers to browse, stream, watch, and listen to content “as if they were home,” Bombardier states.
“With a 10-gigabit fiber-optic architecture and dual wireless access points for redundancy, the nice Touch CMS provides an easy and reliable way to control all cabin functions so that passengers can easily transition between productivity and relaxation,” said Andrew Muirhead, Lufthansa Technik vice president for product division original equipment innovation. Lufthansa Technik Group is a global provider of technical aircraft services and is certified internationally as a maintenance, production, and design organization.
App Control
Passengers will be able to choose their media content and control displays, cabin lighting, and more via the nice Touch app, upcoming for iOS and Android devices. Bombardier says a curated selection of preset lighting schemese offers “limitless custom color combinations for the perfect cabin ambiance.” Recently named a 2018 Red Dot award winner in Product Design, the Global 7000 first flew in 2016 and is scheduled for delivery later this year.
Bombardier recently extended the aircraft’s maximum operating range to 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 kilometers) at Mach 0.85, and states it can fly farther than any other business jet. Seating up to 19 passengers, the aircraft is billed as the “world’s largest purpose-built business jet.” The aircraft’s cabin measures 6.3 feet (1.9 meters) high, 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) wide, and 54.6 feet (16.6 meters) long.
