As Gulfstream explains, the Symmetry Flight Deck features electronically linked active control sidesticks, the industry’s most extensive usage of touch-screen technology, and the third-generation Enhanced Flight Vision System. The flight deck, which includes no fewer than 10 touchscreens, earned Gulfstream numerous industry awards. Jeannine Haas, Gulfstream senior vice president and chief marketing officer, says the series provides viewers a “captivating look into the extraordinary commitment and effort involved in developing a true clean-sheet design—something truly innovative.”
The series features numerous industry leaders who “went to great lengths to revolutionize aircraft technology.” The first episode opens with Scott Martin, Gulfstream master development test pilot, noting “there was not the tiniest inkling of what was in store” initially concerning the “super-secret project.” The initial episode also prominently features Preston Henne, a now retired Gulfstream senior vice president, programs, engineering, and test, who is credited with helping Gulfstream earn Collier Trophies for its V, G550, and G650 jets. “People who fly our airplanes 10 years from now or 20 years from now will be absolutely comfortable with a touch interface because it’s changing the world,” Henne says in the docuseries.
The G500
Introduced in 2014, the G500 seats up to 19 passengers and sleeps eight. The jet offers a maximum flight range of 5,200 nautical miles (9,630 kilometers) and a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925.
