Gulfstream Aerospace Bringing Its Flagship G650ER & Other Business Jets To ABACE 2019
Seeing that the Asia-Pacific market is Gulfstream Aerospace’s largest international market, according to company President Mark Burns, it only makes sense that Gulfstream has nearly its entire lineup of business jets at the 2019 ABACE (Asian Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition) trade show happening April 16 to 18 in Shanghai at the Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. The aircraft appearing specifically include Gulfstream’s flagship G650ER and the G550, G600, G500, and G280. (Gulfstream also manufacturers the G650.)
Asia-Pacific Fleet Growth
Gulfstream says it has 335-plus aircraft in service in the Asia-Pacific region, or 12% of its worldwide fleet. Since 2014, Burns says Gulfstream’s regional fleet grew 24% in the sector, while its Greater China fleet grew 35%. “Our large-cabin aircraft, in particular, do very well in this region thanks to their unsurpassed combination of speed and range,” he says.
Featuring four living areas, the G650ER can fly 7,500 nautical miles (13,890 kilometers) at a long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85 or 6,400 nautical miles (11,853 kilometers) at Mach 0.90. Combined with its G650 sibling, the G650ER has set 90 speed records, including while connecting New York City to Shanghai in 13 hours and 40 minutes and Singapore to San Francisco in 13 hours and 37 minutes. The G500 and G600 are Gulfstream’s newest aircraft. Both feature a clean-sheet design and incorporate the industry’s first active control sidesticks and Intelligence-by-Wire technology. Since debuting at ABACE last year, the G600 has shown it can fly 700 nautical miles (1,296 kilometers) beyond original projections at Mach 0.90.
Serving The Region
Elsewhere, with a 6,750-nautical mile (12,501-kilometer) maximum range, the G550 can connect Shanghai to San Francisco at Mach 0.85. Last year, the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Medical Center took delivery of a G550 for special mission usage. The super-midsized G280, meanwhile, has a 3,600-nautical mile (667-kilometer) range at Mach 0.80, enabling it to travel nonstop from Shanghai to Singapore or Shanghai to Delhi.
