Gulfstream Aerospace’s G550 Business Jets Sets New City-Speed Record, Marks Jet’s 55th Overall Record
Fifty-five is the number of the records that Gulfstream Aerospace’s 19-passenger G550 aircraft now holds after the 19-passenger business jet recently completed a flight from Shanghai to Seattle in 10 hours, 29 minutes to set a new city-pair speed record. The record awaits approval from the U.S. National Aeronautic Association, after which the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale in Switzerland is expected to verify the feat as a world record.
“Never Fails To Impress”
The G550, introduced in 2003 and the winner of a Robert J. Collier Trophy, departed from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport on April 19 at 2:08 p.m. local time and arrived at Seattle’s King County International Airport-Boeing Field at 9:39 a.m. PST. The jet completed the 5,123-nautical mile (9,487-kilometer) flight at an average Mach 0.85 speed.
Mark Burns, Gulfstream Aerospace president, said the G550 “never fails to impress as it continues to break records and uphold its lasting reputation, demonstrating why the G550 is a consistent choice for business aviation and special missions operations.” Last year, Gulfstream delivered a G550 to the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Medical Center for use in special missions.
Serving The World
Equipped with two Rolls-Royce engines and able to take off and land at short-field, high-altitude airports, the G550 provides a maximum 6,750-nautical mile (12,501-kilometer) flight range at a long-range Mach 0.80 cruise speed. Gulfstream says there are 450-plus G550s in service worldwide.
