Bombardier Boosts Global 5500 Business Jet’s Flight Range To 5,900 Nautical Miles

    Posted On: November 5, 2019

Bombardier recently announced that it has extended the flight range for its upcoming Global 5500 business jet by 200 nautical miles. The increase puts the jet’s range now at 5,900 nautical miles (10,926.8 kilometers) flying at Mach 0.85. (Photo courtesy of Bombardier.)

Bombardier says its upcoming 16-passenger Global 5500 business jet, which is expected to enter service this year, can now connect more destinations than any other business aircraft in its segment. That comes thanks to a recent 200-nautical-mile (370.4-kilometer) boost to the jet’s flight range, which is now 5,900 nautical miles (10,926.8 kilometers) flying at Mach 0.85. The increased range enables the Global 5500 to fly longer distances or complete the same distances with more payload and fuel reserves, and will be a baseline feature for existing and future Global 5500 customers.

    “Exceeding Expectations”

Both the Bombardier Global 5500 and 17-passenger Global 6500 (6,600 nautical miles, 12,223 kilometers) recently earned type certification from Transport Canada. Bombardier entered the 6500 into service in late September. Both jets use exclusive Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines, Bombardier’s advanced Vision flight deck, and Nuage chaise seating. The latter is billed as “business aviation’s first and only lounge chair that converts into a flat surface for sleeping or banquet-style dining around the conference grouping table.”

“The rigor and innovation behind our Global 5500 aircraft design and test program have allowed us to deliver enhanced performance without compromise,” says David Coleal, Bombardier Aviation president. “Not only are we standing by our commitment of certifying and bringing to the market an exceptional aircraft on time, we are exceeding expectations along the way.”

    West To West

Compared to the Global 5500’s closest and smaller competitor, Bombardier says the Global 5500 provides 700 more nautical miles (1,296.4 kilometers) of range at Mach 0.85. The jet’s new range is good enough to fly nonstop from Western Europe to the West Coast in the United States. In addition into the Global 5500 and 6500, Bombardier produces Global 7500, 5000, 6000, 7500, and 8000 models, as well as Learjet 75 Liberty and Challenger 350 and 650 business jets.

Controller.com has scores of new and used Bombardier business jet for sale every day, including Bombardier Global 7500, 6000, and 5000 models for sale, as well as Challenger and Learjet models.
