Bombardier Extends Range Of Upcoming Global 7000
If you were already impressed with the progress reports coming out of Bombardier concerning its upcoming Global 7000 business jet, then you’re in for a treat. This week Bombardier announced a 300-nautical mile extension to the Global 7000’s flight range, pushing it to 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 kilometers) at Mach 0.85 and propelling it past the 7,500-nautical mile (13,890-kilometer) range of Gulfstream Aerospace’s G650ER at the same speed. Bombardier says the extension makes the Global 7000, which the company first flew in 2016 and should begin delivery later this year, the “largest and longest-range business jet ever built.”
More City Pairs
Bombardier, which also manufacturers Learjet and Challenger business jets, has completed 1,800-plus hours of flight tests across five Global 7000 test vehicles. During testing, the company says the aircraft set a speed record by reaching a top speed of Mach 0.995, just shy of the sound barrier. With a maximum 51,000-foot (15,545-meter) operating altitude, the Global 7000 has an advertised top speed of Mach 0.925, a Mach 0.90 top cruise speed, and a typical cruise speed of Mach 0.85.
With its extended 7,700-nautical-mile maximum range, Bombardier says the Global 7000 can connect more city pairs than any other business aircraft. Already touted as supporting such long-range routes as New York to Shanghai and Singapore to Seattle, Bombardier says the Global 7000 is now is the only business aircraft that can connect New York to Hong Kong and Singapore to San Francisco.
“Exceeding Expectations”
Bombardier Business Aircraft President David Coleal credits the company’s customers with driving its engineering feats. “Not only are we standing by our commitment to begin delivering Global 7000 aircraft this year,” he says, “we are exceeding expectations along the way.” Bombardier is currently performing interior completions on the Global 7000 at its Montreal headquarters.
Measuring roughly 105 feet long (32 meters), the 19-seat Global 7000 will feature four passenger areas, a full kitchen, and a dedicated crew suite. The aircraft’s cabin measures 6.3 feet (2 meters) high, 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) wide, and 54.7 feet (16.7 meters) long.
