Bamboo Airways Orders 20 Boeing 787s
Citing its plans to connect Vietnam to key markets in North America, Europe, and Asia, startup Vietnamese airline Bamboo Airways committed in late June to purchase 20 Boeing wide-body, long-haul 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The deal is valued at $5.6 billion; deliveries are to tentatively scheduled occur from April 2020 through 2021.
Hanoi Or Bust
Bamboo Airways plans to launch commercial operations next year in Hanoi. FLC Group, a “Vietnamese multi-industry company focusing on aviation, real estate, resorts, farming, and golf,” is the sole owner of the airline. In March, Bamboo Airways and Airbus entered a Memorandum of Understanding for Bamboo Airways to purchase 24 Airbus A321neo aircraft valued at $3 billion for deliveries between 2022 and 2025.
FLC Group Chairman Trinh Van Quyet says Boeing’s “state-of-the-art Dreamliners” will help his company meet long-term goals of establishing long-haul operations to international markets. “The 787's superior economics and efficiency, as well as the passenger-pleasing interior of the Dreamliner will allow us to successfully grow our business while enabling us to better serve our customers," he says.
Setting A Foundation
Along with the 242-seat 787-8 Dreamliner and 330-seat 787-10 Dreamliner, the 290-seat 787-9 Dreamliner makes up the “super-efficient” Dreamliner lineup. Boeing says it has delivered 690-plus Dreamliners since 2011. At 206 feet (63 meters) long, the 787-9 is about 18 feet shorter than the 787-10 Dreamliner but offers a 7,635-nautical-mile (14,140-kilometer) flight range that tops the 787-8 Dreamliner’s 7,355-nautical-mile (13,621-kilometer) and 787-10’s 6,430-nautical mile (11,908-kilometer) ranges.
Before expanding into other Asian markets, including China, Korea, and Japan, Bamboo Airways will initially offer flights within Vietnam. Dinesh Keskar, Boeing Commercial Airplanes senior vice president of Asia Pacific and India sales, says, “We are confident that the 787 will help launch Bamboo's long-haul operations and serve as the foundation of their success for many years to come."
Besides Dreamliner aircraft, Boeing produces 737 MAX commercial aircraft (MAX 7, 8, 9, and 10) and Boeing Business Jets. You’ll find a number of new and pre-owned Boeing aircraft for sale on Controller.com, including 727s, 737s, 757s, 777s, 747s, and Boeing Business Jet aircraft.
