Boeing To Showcase Present & Future Aircraft At Farnborough
Global aerospace manufacturer Boeing will “visually present the innovations that will revolutionize the way humans travel around the world and into space” at the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow set for July 16-22 in Farnborough just outside of London. Besides detailing innovations relating to hypersonic travel, the future of autonomous flight, and manned space flight, Boeing will showcase its commercial and defense aerospace products and broader business services.
“One Boeing”
In a statement, Boeing highlighted the “One Boeing” approach it says has generated a “strong and steady commercial, defense, and services order book” in 2018. Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing CEO and chairman, says Boeing will enter the airshow having had an “exceptionally consistent and strong” 2018, as well as marking the first anniversary of its services business.
Among activities Boeing has planned at Farnborough are interactive virtual and mixed-reality device presentations of its latest aircraft and services. Specific sessions Boeing will participate in include the “Future of Travel and Transport,” “2018 Commercial Market Outlook,” “The Compelling Future of Air Cargo,” and “Developing Cargo Aircraft” sessions.
Flying Demos
Boeing also has flying displays scheduled at Farnborough for its 737 MAX 7 commercial jet, set to enter service next year. Compared to the Boeing 737-700 that preceded it, the 737 MAX 7 can fly 1,000 nautical miles farther (it has a 3,850-nautical mile/7,130-kilometer flight range) and carry more passengers (172), all with 18 percent lower fuel costs per seat, Boeing states.
Also on display will be a Biman Bangladesh 787-8 Dreamliner commercial jet. Boeing says it has delivered nearly 700 Dreamliners to operators since 2011 that have flown 250 million-plus people and saved an estimated 25 billion pounds of fuel. Elsewhere, Boeing will display an Air Italy 737 MAX 8, Qatar Airways 777-300ER, CargoLogicAir and Qatar Airways 747-8 Freighters, and a Royal Air Maroc 767 Boeing Converted Freighter. The U.S. Department of Defense will display several Boeing defense aircraft platforms.
