Gulfstream Bringing G600 Business Jet To Farnborough Airshow For First Visit
Weeks after announcing plans to expand its MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) operation in the London area with a new purpose-built facility at TAG Farnborough Airport, Gulfstream Aerospace will travel to Farnborough for the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow running July 16 to 22. Besides its flagship G650ER, super midsized G280, and G500 (which is expected to receive certification this year), Gulfstream will display its 19-passenger G600 business jet for the first time at the airshow. Gulfstream expects the G600 to receive its certification next year.
Ties To London
Gulfstream announced the MRO expansion at TAG Farnborough Airport in May, noting that 225-plus Gulfstream aircraft are now based in Europe, with the London area having the highest volume of Gulfstream traffic in the region. Pointing out that Gulfstream’s European fleet has expanded by more than 15% since 2013, Gulfstream President Mark Burns says the company’s investments in the area stem from it being one of Gulfstream’s strongest international markets. “We are committed to the region and look forward to showcasing our two newest products, the G500 and G600, as well as the G650ER and G280, in the heart of the United Kingdom,” he says.
TAG Farnborough Airport sits southwest of London near Farnborough. Gulfstream’s current MRO site in the area is situated at London Luton Airport. Gulfstream has stated that fleet growth and the larger size of its newer aircraft have necessitated more capacity and growth of its service network. The Farnborough-located MRO is to start operations in Q3 2020, with facility space spanning roughly 180,000 to 220,000 square feet (16,723 to 20,439 square meters).
Special-Mission Aircraft
Powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW815GA engines, the G600 incorporates an advanced wing design that’s partially responsible for helping the aircraft operate as much as 23% more efficiently than other aircraft in its class, according to Gulfstream. The aircraft offers a 6,500-nautical mile (12,038-kilometer) range at Mach 0.85 and 5,100-nautical mile (9,445-kilometer) range at Mach 0.90. The 2018 International Yacht & Aviation Awards recently honored the aircraft with its Private Jet Design award.
Besides displaying its aircraft at the Farnborough airshow, Gulfstream will host a Special Missions exhibit that details its customizable aircraft platforms. Gulfstream indicates the exhibit will highlight design, engineering, and technology implementations in its special-mission aircraft, pointing to a modified U.S. Navy Telemetry Range Support Aircraft and its evacuation platforms as examples.
