Boeing Takes In Nearly $100 Billion In Orders & Commitments At Farnborough Airshow
The 2018 Farnborough International Airshow was a good one for Boeing. The commercial and business jet manufacturer reported “booking historic orders” at the show to the tune of $98.4 billion based on list prices. The orders included 52 placed for Boeing’s 787 and 564 for the single-aisle 737 MAX. The 737 MAX orders included a commitment for 100 airplanes from VietJet Air and 110 total for the 737 MAX 10 expected to enter service in 2020.
Billions In Business
Overall, Boeing reported taking 673 orders and commitments for commercial aircraft at Farnborough. Besides 787 and 737 MAX orders, the company booked 48 orders and commitments for its 777F freighter aircraft and five for the 747-8F freighter. In addition to the nearly $100 billion in commercial aircraft orders and commitments, Boeing says it secured another $2.1 billion for its commercial and defense services at Farborough.
"Boeing led the way at Farnborough, demonstrating value for our customers, capturing important new business in products and services, and announcing the unique strength of our strategic partnership with Embraer,” said Dennis Muilenburg, Boeing chairman, president, and CEO, in a press release. Boeing and the Brazilian-based Embraer recently entered into a strategic partnership that will unite Boeing’s commercial development, production, marketing, and lifecycle services operations with Embraer’s commercial aircraft and services business.
Forecasting Success
Also at Farnborough, Boeing released its 2018 Commercial Market Outlook, bumping its 20-year outlook for commercial aircraft and services to $15.1 trillion. Boeing is forecasting almost 43,000 new airplanes valued at $6.3 trillion and demand for $8.8 trillion in commercial services for the global market through 2038. Boeing is also forecasting airlines will need 31,360 new single-aisle aircraft (a segment the 737 MAX belongs to) over the next two decades, which is a 6% increase from Boeing’s 2017 forecast. In a release, Ihssane Mounir, Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing, said Boeing is “honored that so many customers continue to see the unmatched value of the 737 MAX airplane family and are coming back to place repeat orders.”
