Gulfstream Adds Range To G600, Announces More City-Pair Records For G650 Business Jet Family
Speed and distance are traits Gulfstream’s business jets are demonstrating plenty of these days. In mid-October, Gulfstream Aerospace increased the flight range for its 19-passenger G600 twin-engine jet for the second time. This recent addition now extends the G600’s range 700 nautical miles (1,296 kilometers) beyond original projections. Separately, Gulfstream reported more city-pair records for its long-range G650 business jet family, bringing the family’s total to 75-plus records.
Range Extended
Gulfstream introduced the G600 in 2014 with a 4,800-nautical mile (8,890-kilometer) range at Mach 0.90. It extended that last year to 5,100 nautical miles (9,445 kilometers). The G600’s range now sits at 5,500 nautical miles (10,186 kilometers)—enough to fly nonstop from London to Los Angeles, Sao Paulo to Aspen, or Hong Kong to Vienna at Mach 0.90. Flying at its long-range cruise speed, the jet’s range extends to 6,500 nautical miles (12,038 kilometers).
Gulfstream launched the G600 simultaneously with its G500 business jet, which earned its Federal Aviation Administration type and production certifications this summer and entered service in September. Gulfstream President Mark Burns says the G600, set to enter service next year, continues to “leverage its extensive commonality with the G500.” Burns says lessons learned from the G500 have helped Gulfstream more efficiently move the G600 through the same tests. The G600 recently finished certification testing for flying qualities, field performance, flight controls, and other parameters.
Charting Records
In noting the G650 family’s 75 city-pair records, Burns said even with 315 G650 and G650ER aircraft in service globally, Gulfstream continues to enhance their “utility, flexibility, and real-world performance.” Most recently, the G650ER set records (still awaiting National Aeronautic Association approval) flying from Keflavik, Iceland, to Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil, in 11 hours 46 minutes at an average Mach 0.90 speed and from Beijing to Paris in 9 hours 18 minutes also at Mach 0.90. Additional records came while flying from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Kiev, Ukraine, in 2 hours 41 minutes and from Kiev, Ukraine, to London in 2 hours 50 minutes.
The G650, meanwhile, recently completed numerous takeoffs and landings at London City Airport to evaluate its steep-approach abilities. Upon receiving approval for London City Airport operation, Gulfstream says the G650 family will be the “fastest, largest, longest-range” business aircraft to operate there.
