Gulfstream Upgrades Connectivity For G280 Operators
Savannah, Georgia,-based Gulfstream recently announced that Wi-Fi connectivity services will be available for operators of its midcabin jets, including the G280 super-midsize business aircraft.
Wi-Fi On The Fly
Viasat is the provider of the new satellite-based connectivity service, and thanks to the Ka-band Network, passengers will enjoy fast, consistent access at maximum data rates of up to 16Mbps. This level of bandwidth is enough for multiple passengers to enjoy video conferencing, TV and movie streaming, fast Internet browsing, and fast email access, all from a personal device throughout the flight. Operators will have access to the service all over the globe, except for in polar regions. When switching between two overlapping satellites to maintain coverage, users will experience only a minor service interruption.
Coming Soon
Starting in Q1 of 2019, the new service will be available on all new Gulfstream G280 orders, and as a retrofit option for existing models. According to Dan Nale, Gulfstream’s senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, “Our G280 customers will be able to quickly access connectivity, content, and services on their personal devices virtually anywhere they fly. Viasat’s Ka-band solution will deliver the Wi-Fi speed, coverage, and reliability they’ve come to expect from Gulfstream.”
Gulfstream’s customers have come to rely on the company’s Connectivity Service program, which offers equipment, service networks, and technical support. The program is also the provider for this new connectivity service.
