Cirrus Aircraft Introduces G2 Vision Jet
Billing it as a “game-changer in personal aviation,” personal aircraft manufacturer Cirrus Aircraft recently launched its second-generation Vision Jet aircraft. The Duluth, Minnesota-based Cirrus will begin delivering the aircraft, dubbed the “G2,” this month complete with numerous performance, comfort, and safety enhancements, including increased cruise altitude, speed, and range and a newly updated Garmin Perspective Touch+ flight deck. Moreover, the G2 will incorporate Autothrottle technology, which Cirrus calls “a category first,” and Flight Stream connectivity.
Performance Bumps
Cirrus says the Vision Jet, certified in 2016 and a Robert J. Collier Trophy winner, ushered in the “Personal Jet” aviation category. With an expanded flight envelope to FL310 (Flight Level 310; 31,000 feet, or 9,450 meters), Cirrus says new access to RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum) flight levels pushes the G2’s range to 1,200-plus nautical miles (2,222 kilometers), leaving the G2 able to carry an extra 150 pounds (68 kilograms) on an 800-nautical-mile (1,481.6-kilometer) mission and travel at a top cruise speed exceeding 300 KTAS.
The jet’s Perspective Touch+ flight deck features new hardware, faster processing speeds, and enhanced screen resolution. It also supports 3D Synthetic Vision, SurfaceWatch, integrated crew alerting, datalink weather, active weather radar, ADS-B, satellite communications, and system-synoptic abilities.
Autothrottle, a feature Cirrus says is typically found in high-end business jets and commercial transport aircraft, integrates with the autopilot and can automatically adjust aircraft speed for each flight phase, translating to more time for pilots to concentrate on other tasks. The G2’s Flight Stream implementation lets pilots connect their mobile devices to the flight deck to enable such wireless abilities as flight plan transfers, database updates, and text messaging.
Enter The Cabin
Besides noise-reduction features and panoramic views, the G2’s cabin includes a new executive seating configuration that “adds sophistication with two luxurious, artisan-crafted second row seats and all-new center console with stow-away tables.” This is just one of 25 available seating configurations, which also include a family configuration suitable for five adults and two children.
Founded in 1984, Cirrus Aircraft also produces a single-engine SR Series of piston aircraft that includes S20, SR22, and turbocharged SR22T models. You’ll find dozens of new and used Cirrus airplanes for sale every day on Controller.com.
