Gulfstream’s Upcoming G700 Business Jet Gets Increased Flight Range & Speed, Reduced Cabin Altitude

    Last week, Gulfstream Aerospace increased the flight range and maximum operating speed of its upcoming 19-passenger G700 business jet. The General Dynamics-owned company also reduced the all-new aircraft’s cabin altitude, which Gulfstream says was already business aviation’s lowest. The manufacturer says the adjustments came about as a result of recent certification test flights.

    “We are undertaking one of the most extensive flight test programs as the G700 is the first business aircraft to undergo Federal Aviation Administration certification following the passage of the 2020 Aircraft Certification, Safety, and Accountability Act,” says Gulfstream President Mark Burns. “As a result, we will be delivering an extremely mature, rigorously tested aircraft that will outperform expectations in speed, range, and cabin comfort. Our certification efforts continue to advance, and we look forward to delivering the G700 to customers around the world.”

    The New Numbers

    The G700’s maximum flight range is now 7,750 nautical miles (14,353 kilometers) at Mach 0.85, a 250-nm (463-km) improvement. At Mach 0.90, the jet now has a flight range of 6,650 nm (12,316 km), also a 250-nm improvement. The aircraft’s maximum operating speed is now Mach 0.935, top among aircraft in the Gulfstream fleet. Gulfstream says the reduction in cabin altitude to 2,840 feet (865 meters) when flying at 41,000 ft (12,497 m) from the previous 2,916 ft (889 m) translates to greater comfort for passengers.

    Gulfstream introduced the G700 in 2019 and expects to enter it into service this year. The jet has already garnered several awards and established more than 45 city pair speed records during its flight test program. The program’s two fully outfitted G700 aircraft have amassed roughly 246,000 nm (455,592 km) to date while traveling the world to demonstrate the jet’s capabilities to potential customers.

    Gulfstream says the G700 will deliver stellar performance and the industry’s most spacious cabin, equipped with 20 panoramic oval windows, 100% fresh air, an ultra-high-definition dynamic circadian lighting system, and cabin configuration options such as a forward galley with five living areas. Passengers can expect “whisper-quiet” cabin noise levels and the industry’s only ultra-galley, which boasts over 10 ft (3 m) of counter space.
